Valley-Wide Recreation’s NEW Aquatic Center is a heated 25-yard out-door pool with a water slide, zero depth entry with water fountain sprayers and activity toys for small children. Come out and enjoy the fun.
The Aquatic center will be open on “Weekends Only” beginning, Saturday, May 3rd for open swim. Beginning Monday, June 16th the pool will be open seven days per week. Children participating in any summer swim program under the age of 3 years old must wear approved swim diapers. WATER SLIDE RULES/POOL RULES:
- All riders MUST be at least 48 inches tall to ride the water slide.
- Can’t stand up on the slide at any time.
- Only ONE person on the slide is permitted at a time
- Swimsuits with plastic or metal rivets are not permitted on the water slide.
- NO roughhousing or horseplay is permitted on the stairs at any time
- NO SMOKING
- NO GUM
- NO Floatation Devices
- No Outside Food or Drinks
- You MUST have a Swim Suit to swim in the pool
SWIM LESSONS
Lessons take place Monday- Thursday. Lessons are 30 minutes long with 5-8 children per instructor, depending on skill level. Participants learn the basic motor skills for beginning swimming and crawl stroke and graduate to sidestroke, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Lessons will be taught in our new Aquatic Center. Each child will be evaluated at the beginning of the session and placed in the appropriate class. Please estimate your child’s ability level in advance. Space is limited-sign-up early!

Private Swim Lessons – By advance reservation
These lessons will take place on Friday’s and Saturday mornings only. Private swim Lessons are 35 – minute, one-on-one lesson with child/adult and one instructor

How to choose the correct level of swimming class for your child.
- Review the skills listed for each class
- Can your child complete all the skills listed? If so, advance to the next level. If not, enroll in that class.
- If your child is afraid of the water, consider the parent and me class or Level I class.
- Consider Level I/II if your child has not had swim lesson and needs to learn the basics.
- If your child does not work well in a group, try private lessons.
Parent/Tot I: Children aged 3 months to 18 months with a trained instructor. Adults will be taught to help their child learn water adjustment, supported floats, kicks, and assisted entries through instruction and games.
Parent/Tot II: Children 18 months to 4 years with a trained instructor. Designed as a water orientation for both tots & parents. Instructor will teach basic skills kicks on front and back prone (front) and back float assisted, arm stroke on front (dog paddling or splashing), tot and parent safety skills.
Level I: This introductory class will help teach your child to feel comfortable in the water, learn flutter kick, bubbles, front/back floats, arm stroke on front (dog paddle) & back (winging), jumps in assisted, jumping in and recovering on own, bobbing, safety skills.
Level II: Students need to feel comfortable in the water. In this class, students advance to back floats, prone kick glide, jumps in assisted, increased underwater exploration, enhanced arm and kick movements both on front and back deep water orientation, head underwater 2-4 seconds.
Level III: Students must be able to swim 15 yards. Skills taught include: Refinement of the crawl stroke with rhythmic breathing, back stroke, jump into deep water and swim, tread water, and deep-water dives for object retrieval.
Level IV: Students must be able to swim 25 yards. Stroke development front and back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, introduction to wall turns, dives & safety discussions.
Level V: Work on stroke refinement with the addition of the sidestroke, butterfly, flip turns, treading water, diving, and safety skills.
JR Lifeguard: This program builds a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards, including prevention, fitness, response, leadership, and professionalism. Participants learn responsibilities of a lifeguard. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards continuously and tread water for one minute. Junior Lifeguards may be able to aid in lessons and volunteer at the pool throughout the summer. They must pass a skill test on the last day of class to volunteer at the pool.

FAMILY FUN NIGHTS – ICE CREAM SOCIAL @ Valley-Wide Aquatic Center
These special activity nights are open to all ages. Come out and enjoy an evening with your family and friends. Fee for family fun night include featured food, and refreshments for the whole family.

This program builds a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards, including prevention, fitness, response, leadership, and professionalism. Participants learn responsibilities of a lifeguard. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards continuously and tread water for one minute. Junior Lifeguards may be able to aid in lessons and volunteer at the pool throughout the summer. They must pass a skill test on the last day of class to volunteer at the pool.

YOUTH WATER POLO
Learn to play water polo. This class builds necessary skills through ball handling, passing and shooting. Each practice increases player’s strength, techniques, and strategies. Students must know how to swim 25 yards.

Movie Night at the Aquatic Center
Our Dive in Movie theater will be open for fun this summer2008. This is a new program for the Aquatic Center. Bring your favorite raft, and your entire family and enjoy some of your favorite movies of all time. You will be relaxing under the stars in the beautiful Aquatic Center Pool.

SUMMER SWIM PROGRAM AT SALLEE POOL
Join in the fun at Sallee Pool this summer. Sallee pool will be open on “weekends only” beginning Saturday, May 24, 2008 for open swim. Beginning Monday, June 16th, the pool will be open seven days a week. Children participating in any summer swim program under the age of 3 years old must wear approved swim diapers. Floatation devices are not allowed at Sallee Pool. You must wear a swimming suit to enter the pool.
